Rhiem Druck installs Syrius laminating system

Rhiem Druck GmbH, based in Voerde, is installing Germany's first fully featured Syrius high-speed laminating system of the latest generation from Steinemann Technology. From high-end folding boxes and displays, all the way to conventional commercial printing jobs, such as office supplies - print products finished with laminating films are becoming increasingly popular among the customers of the print and media house. Most of these customers are manufacturers of branded goods, who want their products to stand out more clearly from the competition at the point of sale with the help of high-class finishing effects. Against this backdrop, one of the important aspects for Rhiem was that the Syrius achieves results of very high quality, particularly also when laminating folding boxes, advertising materials and other print products with metal films. The machine is scheduled to be installed in February 2011. Steinemann Technology just recently presented the latest-generation Syrius to the public.

"The Syrius ideally covers our entire product range," says Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Voigt, Director Business Development and Sales at Rhiem, summing up the result of the market analyses, in which the Syrius came out clearly on top. From the point of view of the well-known print and media house, the new laminating system offers a unique combination of flexibility, quality, productivity and cost-efficiency that is on the market. In addition to which, it is very user-friendly. "We're constantly implementing improvements in order to become even faster, more reliable and more economical - and so that our customer have the decisive lead in their markets," says Voigt, formulating the company's philosophy that also served as the guiding principle when deciding on this investment.
The Syrius laminates sheet formats from 420mm×297mm to a maximum of 1060mm×1450mm and paper weights from 100 g/m2 to 600 g/m2. In view of the very high demands of the customers from the branded-goods industry, the Syrius for Rhiem will be separately fitted with a drying drum and a laminating roller. The result of this is that the company can operate flexibly with different temperatures in the laminating process, making it possible to use all common film types in thicknesses of 10 µm to 100 µm with maximum production reliability, and thus to offer its customers the entire range of possible finishing effects in top quality. In this respect, there is a choice between glossy, matt, coloured, transparent and metallised films that can even contain holograms.
The far greater flexibility of the laminating system in comparison with one-drum machines is also supported by the Super Hot Knife, which Steinemann Technology has further improved for the latest generation of the Syrius. Operating at full production speed, it reliably and precisely cuts all kinds of film, this also applying to metallic polyester films and biodegradable film materials, for example. Another highlight is the drier technology of the Syrius for water-based laminating. It increases the production capacity, while at the same time reducing energy consumption.
In addition to the fully featured Syrius like that being installed at Rhiem, Steinemann Technology also offers its latest-generation laminating system under the name 'Syrius Thermal' as a pure thermal laminating machine and as the 'SYRIUS Trade', a low-cost version for water-based and thermal lamination. Both versions can be expanded to include a host of options, meaning that they can be flexibly adapted to the requirements of printers and finishing providers.
By installing Germany's first latest-generation Syrius laminating system, Rhiem Druck hopes to expand its market position in high-end folding boxes and other products.
