Kama at Hunkeler Innovationdays 2011

Kama ProCut 53with hot foil stamping module

Dresden-based Kama GmbH is exhibiting at the Hunkeler Innovationdays in Lucerne, Switzerland, (14–17 February 2011) for the first time, and will be presenting a solution for efficient finishing of small to medium runs in a small format.

"We will be presenting the enhanced ProCut 53 finishing die cutter at the international industry event for the digital print market," says Kama CEO Marcus Tralau. Launched as a world first at drupa 2008, demand from Europe and overseas for this compact flatbed die cutter for the 530×400 mm format is growing strongly. "In the past six months alone we have received orders from Belgium, France, Italy and Germany and from as far afield as Chile, Japan and New Zealand," Tralau explains.

Efficient finishing in digital printing

Kama is one of the first manufacturers to develop a post-press solution – the ProCut 53 – that meets the demands of the digital market. In addition to its wide range of applications, including kiss-cutting labels, blind embossing and Braille embossing, hot foil stamping (also combined with embossing) and hologram stamping, this finishing die cutter stands for extremely quick job changes: Change-over from hot foil stamping to die cutting takes just five minutes, ideal for large numbers of small, personalised or individualised digital print runs and the trend for finishing. "We now supply around two thirds of our small ProCut models to the digital market, most of which with a hot foil stamping module," Kama CEO Tralau explains. Customers include job printers and packaging printers.

New options for hot foil stamping and hologram

The latest developments for the versatile ProCut 53 are the timed air blast system for easier detachment of the foil, monitoring the delivery unit with a camera and motor-driven pressure control with automatic overload protection. Another new development is the hot foil stamping module for the ProCut 53 with two separately controllable foil feeds (optional). This enables different feed lengths to be programmed and images of different sizes to be stamped as foil-saving as possible on one sheet.

Workflow with distribution partner Heidelberg

On their joint stand at Lucerne, Heidelberg, Polar, ATS and Kama will be demonstrating a complete workflow by producing a brochure. The Kama ProCut 53 finishes the cover with hot foil stamping with a microstructure and blind embossing. The stand team will demonstrate a quick changeover from hot foil stamping to cutting/creasing/blind embossing in the record time of five minutes.

Kama is also a Hewlett-Packard Graphics Solutions Partner in the digital printing sector. The world leader in digital printing recommends the ProCut 53 as a compatible post-press solution for the HP Indigo 5500 and 7500 digital printing presses. Kama technology in the form of the multifunctional DC 58 die cutter also features in the Xerox and Stora Enso Gallop product line for digital packaging printing.
