CGS and Roland at interpack

A new range of substrates, specifically developed by CGS for the packaging market, is being shown for the first time at this year's interpack exhibition. CGS Publishing Technologies International and Roland DG Benelux, a subsidiary of Roland DG Corporation, announced that a groundbreaking solution, comprising hardware, color management and specific media, are being shown on the Roland DG stand.

Finally, all companies of the entire spectrum of the packaging industry have an alternative to conventional proofing systems, which have dominated the market for years, thanks to the printing technology developed by Roland DG, namely the VersaCAMM VS series, and a custom version of the CGS proofing application ORIS Color Tuner//Web, specifically designed for printer/cutters.
“For many years, customers in flexible packaging have been looking for costeffective solutions to take the hassle out of making color-accurate contract-proofs. Naturally, the equirements in this area are highly complex and cannot be met by common inkjet printers. By using eco-solvent inks, including a white and metallic ink for the first time, several prerequisites have been fullfilled. Contrary to commercial or carton printing, proofs have to be produced on media similar to the original printing substrates, like clear or metallized film, and mostly incorporate under- or overprinting white. Furthermore, there is a growing trend in the market to use more and more metallic colors, and it is still common to use the final imagesetter data to produce screened halftone proofs”, explains Heiner Mueller, Director
Communications & Business Development at CGS. Peter Waelkens, New Business Development Manager at Roland DG, adds: “With the Roland VersaWorks application, which dominates the large format market, we mainly address other market segments than packaging. CGS, one of the leading developers of proofing applications, has created a solution in close cooperation with Roland DG and several renowned companies worldwide to drive our rinter/cutting systems, ideally suited for the entire production spectrum, from packaging design up to platemaking.” To complete the solution, CGS has specifically developed several media, which fullfill the high standards of this market.
